The Final Countdown: Roster taking shape

Wednesday news and notes.
*The Bruins have assigned Kevin Regan, Jeff Penner, Andrew Bodnarchuk, and Jamie Arniel to Providence. The Bruins have 36 players remaining in camp. The roster will likely be shaved to 21 players by the end of camp.

* Blake Wheeler took a puck in the grill and needed stitches. However, he's a hockey player and is fine.

* Marco Sturm also had to leave the second session early. Sturm has to leave due to groin discomfort.

*Zdeno Chara and Steve Begin sat out the sessions today due to lower body injuries. Neither injury is thought of as severe. Both players will be ready for opening day.

Today's lineup in practice could be a possible lineup for opening night. Missing of course is Steve Begin who will be the fourth line center. Vladimir Sobotka will likely start the season with Boston and play center until David Krejci's return.

Lucic-Savard-Sturm
Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder
Recchi-Bergeron-Kobasew
Thornton-Sobotka-Bitz

As far as the defense is concerned, no official partners have been set. However, it is a good guess things will line up like so.

Chara - Morris
Ference - Wideman
Stuart - Hunwick

Johnny Boychuk will likely be the team's seventh defenseman.

* Finally, if you're sick of wondering what the Bruins opening night lineup will be against the Capitals then tune in Saturday night. Head coach, Claude Julien said he hopes to have his final roster play in Saturday's preseason finale against Columbus.

So, only three days until we know for sure.
