Savard joins Lucic on Long Term Injured Reserve, will miss 4-6 weeks

The Bruins announced earlier today that Marc Savard has been placed on long-term injured reserve because of a broken left foot. Savard is expected to miss four to six weeks.

According to GM Peter Chiarelli, Savard took a shot off the left foot in a preseason practice. Savard was playing with pain, but yesterday in practice he aggravated it again and had the foot examined. The examination confirmed that Savard's foot was broken.

The Bruins recalled forward Trent Whitfield from Providence on an emergency basis. Whitfield, 32, was signed as a free agent in July by Boston and has three goals and eight assists in six games for Providence this season.

For those who are counting, Savard is eligible to come off of injured reserve, November 19, against Atlanta.
